DESCRIPTION: Obturation marks the final stage of root canal treatment, and it doesn’t have to be complicated. This course breaks down obturation into five simple phases and teaches a straightforward method for sealing the root canal system that is versatile and predictable. Dr. Nudera will show you his technique for canal drying, discuss his rationale for choosing sealer, and help you fit the perfect gutta-percha so that you can obturate the root canal system with confidence.

MODULE 1: INTRODUCTION TO OBTURATION: THE MATCHED SYSTEM TECHNIQUE

In the section, Dr. Nudera outlines the 5 phases of canal obturation and will help you understand the benefits and limitations of the "Matched System Technique" concept.

MODULE 2: OBTURATION PHASE 1: CONE FITTING

In this section, Dr. Nudera will discuss a simple technique to find and fit the perfect gutta-percha cone.

MODULE 3: OBTURATION PHASE 2: CANAL DRYING - PART 1

The materials we use to obturate the root canal system work best in a dry environment. In this section, Dr. Nudera will discuss a predictable method to ensure that the root canal system is as dry as possible.

MODULE 4: OBTURATION PHASE 2: CANAL DRYING - PART 2

Some canals can be more difficult to dry than others. In this section, Dr. Nudera will help you understand what to do when persistent moisture from purulent drainage or canal hemorrhaging prevents complete canal drying. In addition, he will discuss the benefits of calcium hydroxide and its proper application.

MODULE 5: OBTURATION PHASE 3: SEALER PLACEMENT

In this section, understand the role of root canal sealer and its function in obturation. Dr. Nudera will examine the various types of root canal sealers and outline the criteria he uses for making his choice. In addition, Dr. Nudera will discuss the technique for proper sealer application.

MODULE 6: OBTURATION PHASE 4: CONE SEATING

In the section, Dr. Nudera discusses the technique for permanently placing the gutta-percha cone to length. Understand the value of a cone seating radiograph and how to troubleshoot cone placement discrepancies.

MODULE 7: OBTURATION PHASE 5: CONE MELTING

In the section, Dr. Nudera discusses the proper technique for finalizing root canal obturation. Learn how to manipulate the gutta-percha in the coronal zone and understand how to create hydraulic pressure to enhance the root canal seal.

MODULE 8: COMPLETING THE TREATMENT

The final step of root canal technique involves cleaning the chamber and closing the access. In the section, Dr. Nudera discusses methods to address excess sealer and gutta-percha that may remain in the pulp chamber and options for access closure.
