DESCRIPTION: The ability to render root canal treatment in a comfortable, pain-free manner represents the benchmark of modern endodontic treatment. It is the single variable for which patients measure our clinical competency and skill. This course is designed to help you eliminate those unwanted distractions and interruptions resulting from ineffective or inadequate anesthesia. In this short, three-part series, Dr. Nudera breaks down all you need to know about our local anesthetics and the steps we need to take in order to achieve the profound anesthesia we need and our patients expect.

Welcome to Dr. Nudera's Office!

This patient is in pain with an unfavorable prognosis, and the tooth is in the esthetic zone, requiring more time to plan for the replacement. Watch the rationale behind the clinical decision-making process as Dr. Nudera temporarily stabilizes a maxillary premolar with a confirmed oblique root fracture.

MODULE 1: BASIC LOCAL ANESTHETIC

In this section, Dr. Nudera discusses the three most common types of local anesthetic he uses for root canal treatment. Begin to understand the onset and duration of these solutions, as well as Dr. Nudera's recommended administration protocol per tooth type.

MODULE 2: ANESTHESIA TESTING

Confirmation of anesthesia before initiating treatment is critical to ensure our patient's comfort. In this section, Dr. Nudera outlines a simple three-step anesthesia testing protocol that will give you and the patient confidence in moving forward with treatment.

MODULE 3: SUPPLEMENTAL ANESTHESIA

When all the signs of local anesthetic are present, but the tooth isn't fully numb, we must understand alternative injection techniques to increase the efficacy of our local anesthetic. This section discusses why certain teeth can be more challenging to anesthetize than others, as well as various methods that can be considered to overcome these problematic scenarios.
